Japanese Urushi Lacquerware

Urushi lacquer is natural lacquer made from lacquer tree grows in Asia. Among them, Japan's climate is perfect for growing high-quality lacquer trees and the country has always produced the finest lacquerwares in terms of both technique and quality.
Urushi lacquerware combines practicality with artistic value. Its durability improves with each coat of lacquer, and the more it is used, the more it develops a rich luster, which is its charm. Its beauty is highly regarded as a traditional Japanese craft. It is also used in Shinto and Buddhist religious ceremonies and carries spiritual symbolism.
Many Japanese Urushi lacquer products have fascinated people from Europe and around the world since the 14th century, and were formerly called "japan."
It takes 10 years for the lacquer sap to be harvested, and only about 200g of Urushi lacquer can be produced from one tree, making it quite valuable.
The origins of Urushi lacquerware
Excavations in Hokkaido, Japan, that began in 2000 unearthed six Urushi lacquer products, and radiocarbon dating in the United States revealed that they were approximately 9,000 years old. These have been confirmed to be the oldest Urushi lacquer products excavated to date in the world. Additionally, the world's oldest lacquer tree branch, dating back 12,600 years, was discovered in Fukui, Japan. Many fine pieces of Urushi lacquerware have also been discovered in the same area.
